Solvents are commonly used in paints, adhesives, sealants, cleaners, and degreasers — but improper use can seriously impact your health. You can be exposed to solvents by: • Skin contact while cleaning tools • Breathing vapours during painting, sealing, or gluing • Ingestion from contaminated hands while eating, drinking, or smoking • Injection from high-pressure spray equipment Protect yourself on site: • Eliminate ignition sources — many solvents are flammable • Ensure proper ventilation; use fans when needed • Wear the correct PPE, including respirators approved for organic vapours (OV) • Avoid skin and eye contact and never use solvents to clean skin • Follow product labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) • Wash hands thoroughly before eating, drinking, or smoking • Keep solvent containers closed when not in use Take a moment with your crews to review labels and SDSs for solvents on site.
